Ultimately, some tea blenders take the initiative to be more creative than others. They provide a vertiable cornucopia of flavor compared to most traditional tea brands. Well… 52teas is at it again. The Zoomdweebies Tea Bar side project based out of Wichita, Kansas really has something going on here.
When this blend arrived I swear I could smell it through the package. Of course, that’s a bit of an exageration. But if I could have, it would have been just as wonderful. As soon as the dry blend’s scents met my nose I was instantly imagining images of a decadent slice of Coconut Cream Pie with a pile of Coconut shavings on top. Buttery and smooth. The steeped aroma is a bit more subdued however, and rightly so.
This blend is even pretty to look at. Large coconut shavings blended well with stern looking 1/2 inch or so black tea leaves makes for a very nice picture. It’s almost a shame to ‘rust’ the color of the coconut by steeping the tea. But not enough of a shame for me to not taste this blend.
Brewed to a deep amber brown, the aroma provides hints of vanilla and light tones of assam and is a bit harsher on the nose than when the tea was dry.
This blend’s flavor is as creamy as it sounds, though more brisk than I’d imagined prior to the first sip. The assam and coconut really come out here. There’s just a hint of vanilla smoothness as you let the tea sit on the palate.
The Coconut Cream Pie is much bolder than its scent relays. Providing considerable bite to the tongue with each sip. Still, I couldn’t put the cup down and absorbed this blend quickly.
