Pi Lo Chun (Adagio)

Wednesday is Green Tea, White Tea, Rooibos, Oolong and Tisane (Herbal) Review Day!

To help calm your nerves this tax day, I bring you a review of one of the better Chinese green teas I have had in a while. Pi Lo Chun by Adagio!

To give this tea any more than its due would be wasteful! I’ll start by letting you know I was provided with a sample to review. Much thanks to Christine at Adagio for taking an interest in this blog!

Pi Lo Chun has a great history. Traditionally offered to the Emperor as a gift with each year’s taxes this super-light green tea is harvested for only a very short while.

When this tea steeps it lets out only the faintest of aromas. I wouldn’t say it’s ‘weak’, but it’s not going to take over your room either.  I’m reminded of a light white miso soup when I take in the aroma. Very nice indeed. Inviting, but more gently coaxing than I’m used to. Very nice!

The flavor is outstandingly light! Perfect for a late night tea or to partake of with a snack. Not heavily flavorful, but this tea presents itself as a healthy vice. While I am sure there’s no dashi stock in this tea, it really does remind me of a light white miso soup. Not very earthy and not blended with anything I found the flavor of this tea to be very pleasing.

Like the Aroma and the Flavor the Boldness with Pi Lo Chun isn’t very high. Again, not all teas should have a high rating in Boldness as we all need change for our palettes and some of us actually prefer lighter teas altogether. Regardless this tea’s lack of “umph” matches well with its taste and smell to round out one of the most enjoyable teas I’ve had in a long, long time.
