Himalayan Orange (Harney & Sons)

Wednesday is Green Tea, White Tea, Rooibos, Oolong and Tisane (Herbal) Review Day!

Sometimes you run across a really unique tea. Often these can be of the flavored variety… but on occasion you’ll end up with a tisane (herbal) tea which just really hits the spot!

Initially this review would have been on Harney & Sons’ blend of Himalayan Tips. However, this year’s crop was of insufficient quality to pass the Harney test and so they didn’t pick it up. One has to respect a blender who can refuse to buy a batch of tea they’ve been buying for a while because it doesn’t pass their own muster.

This year Harney went with a blend of Himalayan Orange and it is absolutely superb! As Harney describes it the “Orange” in the name indicates the size of the leaf, since Orange Pekoe are the largest size leaves, and not an indication of flavor.

Himalayan Orange is probably one of the lightest tisane I’ve come across but remains a solid flavor which the palette seems to try and enunciate every accent of! I often find myself drinking this tisane for the better part of the day if I’ve started it in the morning.

While I’m not yet talented enough to guage the lighter notes of individual fruity flavors in this blend, I can certainly tell they’re there. And I appreciate their inclusion!

While it’s no scientific study and it did not factor into the rating, I and a co-worker are both prone to migraines and Harney’s Himalayan Orange seems to diffuse these painful maladies before they’ve reached their full power. If you have a headache or a migraine, deffinitely give this blend a shot. If it doesn’t ward off your pain, at least you’ll have a delicious tea you can enjoy!
