Sour Cherry Serenade (Teavana)

I’ve always loved cherries. There’s something about their combines sweet & tart flavors that just gets me excited. Imagine an extra sour cherry turned into a tea with a bit of spice and you’ll have this Sour Cherry Serenade from Teavana.

Some teas are delightfully simple. A Japanese Sencha for example is straight forward, in your face… BAM! It’s Green tea. Other teas, like this Sour Cherry Serenade, seem to take on a bit much at one time.

Complex and busy, this blend combines apple bits, safflower, cherries, black and green tea leaves, orange peels and hibiscus blossoms to provide its remarkably puckery sweet flavor.

I am not one to typically enjoy teas which try so hard. But anyone who’s tried my cooking would laugh at my call for simplicity with regards to flavor.

This tea brews to a nice deep and enticing cherry red and provides an aroma with light notes of apple and hibiscus underneath the diva flavor that is, in this case, cherry.

I could clearly taste the cherry and safflower of the bat. Lingering notes from apple and hibiscus were also present. I was rather disappointed the “tea” in this blend didn’t present itself here. There was a strong sour pucker from the cherries and a little bite, I presume was from the orange peels. Together they add up to a bit stronger of a blend than I’d anticipated.

I would recommend this blend to anyone who enjoys a good breakfast tea, an assam, yerba mate, cherries, fruit and fruit teas, and even smoothies. You’ll enjoy the striking flavors and the hidden subtleties… even though the “tea” doesn’t quite surface when drinking.
