Sweet Oolong Revolution (Teavana)
Wednesday is Green Tea, White Tea, Rooibos, Oolong and Tisane (Herbal) Review Day!
Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Clove… sounds like the beginnings of a spiced tea… does it not? In this case, it’s the base of “Sweet Oolong Revolution” by the folks at Teavana.

Teavana’s Sweet Oolong Revolution is made of lightly folded and curled brown & black leaves mixed with large pieces of pumpkin, papaya and cloves and brews to a comforting light orange..
This would be great on it’s own… but it doesn’t stop there! Add in cardamom and nutmeg for good measure and you have a blend worthy of being called a Chai but which has so much going on you can’t taste the tea in it.
The aroma is presented with a rich cinnamon and clove and light notes of pumpkin. Just a touch of papaya is hidden inside for a lightly sweet temptation.
The flavor here is primarily of cardamom and clove. While I could gather some pumpkin from the aroma there’s really none of it in the brew, which I find unfortunate. While the pumpkin was nowhere to be found, the papaya remained a subtle but tasty palate pleaser. There’s also some light dryness which I presume is caused by the nutmeg, but I could be wrong.
A great thing about Teavana is that they experiment a lot with flavors. A not-so-great thing about Teavana is also that they experiment with flavors. A lot. This Sweet Oolong Revolution contains a whole bunch of stuff and so it’s a bit busy and difficult to catch any nuance to the beverage.
I would recommend this brew for anyone who likes fruity teas, flavored teas or likes a good experiment. While the flavor isn’t exactly bad, you won’t find many hints of the “tea” inside it.
